Yes, it is hot in Texas in the summer and if you have work to do around the ranchette (five full acres here), it probably includes some yard work from time to time. The best way to be prepared for safe and comfortable yard work is to drop by the bike room before you head outdoors.

First thing to grab in the bike room is your hydration pack. For yard work, I use my old original CamelbaK® in the custom Team Roadkill sleeve that Nancy made for it years ago. No need for all the fancy pockets and such, just a fluid sack.

We called 'em commie stompers back in the sixties!

One bit of bike wear that I don’t don for yard work are my ever-present Shimano SPD sandals. Yup, yard work is about the only time I don’t wear ’em. Get some sturdy boots.

The helmet? A mounting place for the light and protection from low limbs when mowing at night.

My ACA ball cap is good, but a full-brimed, ear-protectin’ straw cowboy hat would be better. Yes, that’s the Sweat GUTR across my forehead and my cycling gloves. If you are gettin’ back into the brambles and tye-tye bushes, go for real work gloves.

Can you see where I’m holding the Sweat GUTR trough open. That’s it, the whole gravity driven mechanism, shades of tears in my ears.

Gel gloves, mmmmmm!

That’s it, the whole outfit for doing yard work like an experienced cyclist. You can even mow the lawn in the dark with the right light.
